5 Ways To Increase Comments On Your Blog
Please subscribe to ProTycoon.com via the RSS Feed or Via Email.
Blogs by their very nature depend on comments, you write your posts with the view that your blogs visitors will leave their opinions and views in the small section under the post. Comments are also used as a metric by many to judge how popular your blog is, a large amount of comments can mean you are providing great content that people feel they should give their view on.
It is no surprise then that many bloggers are looking to increase comments on their blogs. I have managed to increase comments here on ProTycoon.com using many different methods. I am going to highlight the 5 most successful methods for increasing comments on your blog.
5 Ways To Increase Comments On Your Blog:
- Ask For Comments: Sound to simple? It is very easy to end your post with “Please feel free to leave your comments below.” This reminds your readers at the end of your post that they can leave their opinions and views. I have found that by simply asking people to leave thier views I get slightly more comments than on a standard post.
- Finish Your Post With A Question: Similar to point 1, but more specific. Asking a question at the end of your post means that in order to answer the question they must leave a comment. This can have great results at the end of a post such as this one, where I could ask: “What are your best tips for increasing comments on your blog?”.
- Give Something Back: You may have noticed that I use the ‘Top Commentators’ widget on ProTycoon.com. I feel that it is a great way of rewarding the people that comment on my blog and also increases comments as people want to be on the top list.
- Make It Easy: Keep the comments form simple and easy to use. Make it possible for comments to be left quickly and easily and you will see a rise in comments on your blog. Make sure your comments section is visible at the bottom of your posts, not hidden way down the page.
- Make Your Self Approachable: Make yourself known in your comments area, reply to comments you recieve. I try to reply to all comments on my blog. People are more likely to comment if they think you will actually reply, or if you show you care about comments.
I have now revealed 5 ways to increase your RSS count.
Feel free to leave your comments below. How do you increase comments on your blog?

#6 - Make your comment link dofollow and pass your PR to your active commenters and ensure that they are aware of it.
Hey David, one of the reason I don’t feel out of place here is for the very reason that you are approachable and you do make an effort to reply to each of your commenter irregardless of anything.
So you have a nice day ahead, pal.

Return the favour. When someone comment on your blog try to go on their website/blog and comment as well.

@Blog for Beginners: you’re right. but it also attracts spammer so be aware of them and be ready to filter them
But I don’t recommend moderating comment as it can also affect the number of comments.

I like the points you have listed. They are simple and easy things to do and it wasnt a post that took forever to read. I will give it a go.

@Yan
The dofollow link option is one I left out of the list as I feel it deserves a post of its own.
I hope I can always reply to all my comments.
@dimaks
I always have a look at who is commenting on my site.
@Salwa
I try my best to comment on the blogs of people who comment on mine, if not, I do a stumble or something else useful on the site.
@Hussein
You always have to be aware of spammers. Hopefully you can stop as much spam as possible.
@Gerri
Thanks for the comment

@Hussein: With Askimet and self-moderation, spamming has never been an issue for me; at least for now..;-)

I have also managed to keep the level down!

If I get a comment from another Blogger, I also visit and leave a comment.
The one thing I keep in mind is that you can’t do it alone. It takes a lot of work to
make it to the top and with teamwork you can make it a little easier.

I still do some get spam comments that akismet can’t recognize as spam comments. Spammers are so smart of these days.
@ProTycoon - hope you also blog about how to prevent spam comments hehehe.

Hi David,
I recently installed CommentLuv Plugin on my blog. I really believe it attracts people to comment on such blogs with this plugin once people understand this plugin a little better. It also helps in link building and bring in a little more traffic to the blog too.

Well, looks like you know what you’re talking about! I always reply to every comment on my blog. Yes, it can take time, but it’s well worth it, to make my readers feel like part of the whole experience of my blog.
Also, I think the top commentator is definitely a good deal, people like to win, and be in the top whatever so, they’ll comment to get there. As long as it’s not comment spam and they just say “good post” on everything. lol
If they start doing that, then I’ll have to delete those comments.
David Shaw | July 27th, 2008 at 10:40 pm #
Thanks for the many comments JK!
