Backordering some domains
I’ve been checking the pending deletes a lot in the last few weeks. Specifically, I have been looking at the 3 letter and 3 number domain names. The .com domains are going for a fair sum but the .info’s have actually been well priced.
I managed to pick up my first one today : nqr.info. It only cost $60. A bargain if you ask me and I’m sure I’ll be able to get a lot more for it in the future. I’ve got a few more backordered so I should be able to pick up a few more 3 letter .info’s in the next few days.
There are other good domains available at the moment too. The one I really want is backpackers.net. The auction ends tonight though it’s high bid is currently at $450. This is a domain I would be able to develop quite easily into a travelling information or community site (i.e. backpackers network). It looks like the domain will be backordered and then put into an auction for those who bid. I’d love to get this domain but I think it’s going to go for a pretty penny and I’m reluctant to get caught up in a bidding war.
How much do you think backpackers.net is worth?

BackPackers.net would be a premium domain, you could easily just flip the domain for a couple of thousand I’d reckon.

How do you plan to monetize it? My eBay store that performs the best does about $250-$350 per month … and I’m sure there are a lot of other ways to monetize that. In fact I only have like 3-4 blog posts on this particular site or I’m sure it would be doing much better. I’ve been a little tied up this past month! LOL If it’s something (backpacking/travel) you’re passionate about and can keep up with the writing the sky’s the limit and I say go for it. Probably an easy niche to get guest posts for too … those who travel like to write about it and if they’re not professionals (or they’re getting started and need published work) you can get that pretty easily. Keep us posted for sure. *SmiLes* Suzanne

I can see this domain going for a couple of thousand, their is a lot of potential in backpackers.net, it might end up paying for itself pretty quickly if developed right.

The site looks expensive, but there were several nonfunctioning items there when I visited. The flight system for one. There is certainly no doudt that this website is a wealth of information and has a great deal of potential.

Tom – Yeah there’s a lot of people bidding on it which is why I think it will be hard to get it cheap.
Suzanne – Yeah I think it would be easy to develop. $300 a month is great for an ebay store. I created one of those but never really put any energy into it.
Success – You could be right. There”s a lot of money in travel affiliation.
Brad – Were you looking at backbackers.com?
