Websites have more of a beneficial objective when it comes to giving out information-simply because there is more space to do it. However, they both accomplish the same task of getting information out there to the public.

Lastly, websites are like online business cards because they show consumers just how distinctive and different they can be with regards to the layout of the website and card. With text, graphics, fonts, and design, companies are capable of efficiently marketing themselves to show consumers why they are the company to utilize.

Advertising is very expensive, but there is one way to publicize your business, organization, event or even yourself for no cost at all. Just write a press a release.

A newspaper will charge you a small fortune to run your advert, but if you can give them a good story they will run it. In short they will give you great publicity – and it will be for free!

So how do you go about putting together a press release? Obviously it will have to be interesting enough for the newspaper to run the story. So before putting pen to paper, rack your brains for something that will hook that interest. Is there something extra special or unique about your project? If so, lead your press release with that.

Your press release does not have to overly long; 100 to 150 words will do. Don’t forget to mention the project, be it a new shop, a new business or whatever. Give some background about it. If you are not experienced in writing press releases do not worry. The chances are the newspaper will not publish it word for word. They may even decide to get back to you for more information before developing it into a longer story

And finally do not forget to give a contact number at the end of your release. Many newspapers require this so they can verify the story. They may decide to ring you to find out more details, allowing them to give your story that expert touch and helping you to gain valuable publicity when it is published. And it will all be for free!

I’ve compiled a little list that will help you to get your site exposed to online population and help your site index faster, get your PR higher. The list is not in any particular order, some strategies may work better for others than you so pick what you like and use it, but it would be best if you can do them all.

1. StumbleUpon and Digg – very popular sites among online community, a great place to submit your site to.

2. Propeller, OnlyWire and SocialMarker – sites whole sole purpose in my eyes is to improve indexing and ranking of websites.

3. Submit articles to Ezine and Associated Content with your link attached to them. Associated content will even pay you for submitting articles to them, up to $20 per article if you know how to write good.

4. Submit comments to blogs with your link attached.

5. Personal profiles on popular social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace can prove heavily beneficial to circulate your site’s information and backlinks.

6. Use Twitter to direct traffic, use automation software to add followers. Twitter is very popular right now; use it to your advantage.

7. Add valuable articles to forums in your niche and have a link in your signature.

8. If a competitor with high traffic-site uses Ad Sense, then you can use Google’s Site Targeting Program to get your ad directly to your competitor’s site, evading hassles of contacting the owner. Kinda black hat but it costs a little money.

9. Offering free items on your site, such as free courses, affiliate products or e-books will help gain a higher number of subscribers and repeat traffic.

10. Create a video containing informative footage regarding your site and upload on common video hosting sites such as YouTube. The link to your site must be included primarily in the About Video/Information section of the clip.
