Technorati is a blog search engine, according to their site they track over 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media.

Here is a quote from the Technorati about page:

Technorati is the recognized authority on what’s happening on the World Live Web, right now. The Live Web is the dynamic and always-updating portion of the Web. We search, surface, and organize blogs and the other forms of independent, user-generated content (photos, videos, voting, etc.) increasingly referred to as “citizen media.”

Technorati uses several different methods for ranking blogs:

  1. Authority
  2. Number of Fans
  3. Ranking

The Technorati Authority is the number of blogs that have linked to your blog in the last 6 months. The higher the number the better.

The number of fans is simply the number of people that have added you as a favourite on Technorati.

The Technorati Rank is based on the Authority of your blog, the blog with the highest authority is ranked #1, with the smaller the number being better.

Technorati also has a Top 100 section that lists the top 100 ranked blogs, the top 5 current blogs are:

  1. The Huffington Post
  2. TechCrunch
  3. Gizmodo
  4. Engadget
  5. Boing Boing

All of these can be increased, and that is what I am looking to do. I am setting myself a target to reach by the end of July. July is going to be a big month for ProTycoon.com. I will be competing in Blogging Idol, I also have my blog redesign which should be ready in the coming weeks. I am now going to raise the bar by setting some extra goals to add that little extra motivation.

These are my current Technorati stats:

Authority: 23

Fans: 1

Rank: 293,031

I am looking to improve all three of these stats. The targets I have set myself are:

Authority: 200

Fans:20

Rank: 200,000

As you can see I am sticking with the number 2 a lot. These are just some rough targets to give myself something to work towards. I will assess how I have done at the end of July, then set some new targets for the following month.

Help me reach my targets, become a fan of ProTycoon.com. Why not share your blogs stats, do you have any goals or tips for Technorati.

I don’t have Technorati goals per se, I’m more into my Alexa goals. I want to be in the top 500,000 ranking. I also want to have 10,000 pageviews/month, and I’m currently at 6400. I’m sure that’s lame for some that get that many hits per day or hour, but I’ve got to start somewhere.
I may have missed it but I don’t see an easy way on your site to add you to technorati. You should include a link even directly on the post.

if you get an authority of 200, your rank will be more like <30,000… :D

I reckon you can hit that target easy!

I am expecting to make a big jump up the rankings.

A top 50,000 would be amazing for a 4 month old blog.
